S THE BALKANS AND BEYOND

October 08, 20:00 PM

Szabadkikötő

(Pécs, Király u. 64.)

We’re preparing a special, diverse evening – just like the Balkans themselves.

The evening will be kicked off by the Pécs-based group SODRASH, who are preparing a specially reworked set for the occasion. They will be followed by SIN SEEKAS from Vojvodina in Serbia, and the evening will be rounded off by the Colombian-Hungarian DJ duo with their FIESTA BALKANIKA party.

We’ll take you on a journey from Hungarian folk song lyrics through the Balkans all the way to Bogotá.

„Pen and Needle” – Exhibition of Embroidered Comics

Punk and New Wave in Yugoslavia – Public Lecture by Aleksandar Zograf

October 09. 17:00

House of Arts and Literature

(Széchenyi tér 7-8.)

Pen and Needle

Serbian alternative comics artist Aleksandar Zograf has seen his drawings transformed into a different medium: embroidery, meticulously executed by Gordana Basta. In today’s fast-paced world, handmade embroidery can seem almost anachronistic – a “slow” art form that demands patience, dedication, and careful craftsmanship. By contrast, Zograf’s comics belong to the realm of contemporary visual culture: immediate in expression, modern in sensibility, and published internationally.

The encounter between these two seemingly distant worlds gives rise to a unique and vibrant body of work.

Their appeal lies precisely in this ability to transcend conventional boundaries.

Punk and New Wave in Yugoslavia

Yugoslavia was a country hovering between two worlds—Western and Eastern—and its politics and culture were products of this situation. Serbian author Saša Rakezić, better known by his artist name Aleksandar Zograf, will present the history and background of punk and new wave music, which blossomed in 1980s Yugoslavia shortly after the death of its president, Tito.

Through a series of slides, he will speak about the conception and development of youth culture in Yugoslavia shortly before its bloody decomposition, and the bands that initiated an important cultural (or subcultural) production in their time.

The event will begin at 5:00 p.m. with a presentation by the exhibition’s creators, followed by the lecture of Aleksander Zogaf.

The presentation and lecture will be held in English!
