The first “Pathophysiology Challenge” Interactive Case Study Competition at the Medical School in Pécs took place in a pleasant atmosphere
May 12, 2026
On the 23rd March 2026, the Medical School of Pécs hosted, for the first time, an interactive DDK workshop in which third-year medical students of the English-Programme could compete in the pathophysiological analysis of clinical case studies. The event was organized by the teachers and student demonstrators of the Institute for Translational Medicine.
The workshop offered third-year medical students an excellent opportunity to work together with student researchers and demonstrator students in an interactive format, analyzing complex pathophysiological case studies and answering clinically relevant questions. The 36 participating students were divided into four teams and had to work through different clinical case studies at four stations. They interviewed demonstrator students acting as patients, evaluated and discussed physical examination results and findings, including laboratory results and ECGs, and then answered questions from the teacher and student demonstrator team leading each station about the relevant pathophysiological implications. At each station, senior teachers supported, supervised, and scored the teams’ work as mentors. At the end of the competition, the solutions and common mistakes were discussed together, and the results were announced.
The best team received a special award, and every student received a certificate and a small gift. The event was also supported by the Circle of Demonstrators.
The main organizers of the workshop were Dr. Erika Pétervári and Dr Márta Balaskó. Dr Gréta Pham-Dobor, Benedek Kasza, Dr Luca Tóth and student demonstrators of the Institute for Translational Medicine also took an active part as organizers: Yashwanth Sudheendra Gowda and Mohammad Ihsan Giffry Zafar Hussain, and as teaching contributors: Faraz Nouri, Isaac Kadim, Johannes Hainzl, Patrik Deák, Zsóka Gáspár, Zsófia Nedók, Fruzsina Prohászka, Dávid Cano Krommer.
The organizers greatly enjoyed working with the enthusiastic students, whose positive feedback provides strong motivation for organizing future workshops. Participants particularly highlighted the interactive structure, the pleasant atmosphere, the realistic scenarios, and the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge in practical situations.
The Interactive Case Study Workshop for Hungarian students took place on the 26th March.
The corresponding Interactive Case Study Workshop for German students took place on the 27th March.
