Information sessions, workshops and an interactive presentation on artificial intelligence helped domestic and international first-year students at the University of Pécs Medical School and Faculty of Pharmacy get ready for the start of the academic year during the orientation days held at the end of August.

On 26 August, first-year students in the German- and English-language programmes in General Medicine, Dentistry, Biotechnology and Pharmacy took part in the orientation programme, while students enrolled in the Hungarian-language programmes were welcomed on campus on 28 August. Alongside essential information about their studies and the start of the semester, the programme featured a range of workshops and an interactive presentation.

As a mandatory part of the orientation days, students attended a presentation by the Registrar’s Office on enrolment and the start of the semester, as well as information sessions by the Hungarian, English and German Admissions and Student Service Offices and the Students Councils. They were also introduced to the Peer Programme, which provides support to both Hungarian and international students. 

Following the official information sessions, students had the opportunity to learn more about the faculties and the university, including their various units and services at information stands set up in the atriums of the Dr György Romhányi and Dr Endre Grastyán theoretical blocks.

A range of optional programmes was also available throughout the two days. These included the PTE Career Office’s beléPTEtő freshman workshop, which offered practical advice on adapting to a new environment and navigating the challenges of university life. At the Medical School YourLife workshop Me and My Career, participants explored their own motivations and strengths and considered how to shape their professional paths more consciously.

Those interested could also attend the interactive presentation Study Smarter: AI at Medical School 1.0, which explored how artificial intelligence can be used as a learning tool. The presenters discussed not only the opportunities AI offers, but also its limitations and potential pitfalls, highlighting the importance of using the technology responsibly.
