July 6, 2026

At 10 a.m., Dr. Ákos Nagy, Head of Dentistry Programme, opened the ceremony with his welcome speech addressed the 71 graduating dentistry students.

„Today is above all a celebration for families and parents whose sacrifices, support, and dedication helped their children graduate. It is also an honour to the university and the lecturers who shared their knowledge and prepared our new colleagues for the professional and personal challenges” – said Dr. Ákos Nagy. He added that, from today, the young dentists can make independent decisions and will also be responsible for them. He also mentioned that the greatest reward in their profession will be satisfied patients with happy smiles.

Dr. Péter Balogh, Head of Biotechnology MSc Programme, also welcomed 12 graduating biotechnology students.

„You should be satisfied and proud of yourselves but never forget to remain humble. I wish you never lose your ambition or your goals and never settle for mediocrity. Whenever you face challenges, remember the joy you felt when your PCR reaction worked for the first time or when you succeeded in flow cytometry” – said Dr. Péter Balogh.

After taking the oath, honoring their outstanding academic achievements, all dentistry graduates with a summa cum laude qualification received a 14-carat golden ring, called Elizabeth ring, decorated with the crest of the University of Pécs Medical School.

In memory of Dr. Gyula Mestyán, Professor of Pediatrics, graduates performing outstanding demonstrator work were acknowledged. Based on the decision of the Undergraduate Research Committee, Dr. Vivien Vass won the Mestyán Gyula Award.

The Szabó Gyula Award was presented to a Hungarian dentistry student, who received excellent grades in Introduction to Implantology and Prosthodontics 4. examinations and achieved the highest score in the comprehensive written examination in prosthodontics and implantology. „Today is a day of celebration: we celebrate knowledge, perseverance, several successful exams, laboratory practices, professional challenges, and the journey that has brought you here” – said Dr. Zsuzsanna Helyes in her speech. She emphasized that science and innovation are currently undergoing tremendous changes and development, but one thing remains the same: knowledge is truly valuable when it serves others.

This was the second year that students graduating from the English-language Biotechnology BSc programme received their international degree.

Addressing the graduates, Dr. András Fittler, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, recalled his own experiences as a young pharmacist and his desire to meet every expectation and do everything perfectly. He added that decades of experience had proved him that perfection is a goal that cannot be achieved.

“Trying to achieve perfection might lead to frustration and burnout, so do not forget that we are valuable and human despite our mistakes, and we can become excellent by learning from our weaknesses. We can never be completely ready, staying attentive is what matters, we should recognize our opportunities for improvement, and invest time and energy every day to become better. It is like bank interest: our investment will pay off years later. I wish you to see problems not with anger, but as opportunities” – said Dr. András Fittler.

Speaking on behalf of the newly graduated pharmacists, Dr. László Schreiner, Dr. Mostafa Mohamed Farag Attia Elsebaey, and Gábor Pinterics expressed their gratitude to their lecturers and families.
