“Brain Matters!” – a valuable, student-friendly and enjoyable workshop

May 4, 2026

The “Brain Matters!” workshop was organized on March 25 at the Medical School in Pécs by Park Joori and Kíra Patai, medical students enrolled in the English and Hungarian programs. Now held for the fourth time, the event once again provided fifth-year students with an opportunity to refresh their knowledge in a relaxed, playful setting before exams. The main goal of the program is to help integrate neuroanatomical and neurological knowledge.

The first part of the workshop took place at the Department of Anatomy, focusing on neuroanatomy. With the help of Professor Dr. Andrea Tamás and student demonstrators, participants reviewed clinically important topics. Before the revision session, students tested how much they remembered from their second year, followed by a “Kahoot!” quiz. Those who scored the highest received small prizes. This interactive form of knowledge assessment remains popular among students, as it not only provides immediate feedback but also fosters a healthy sense of competition and refreshes attention after more demanding theoretical sessions.

In the second part of the program, held in the MediSkills lab, clinical thinking took center stage under the guidance of Dr. Zsófia Nozomi Karádi and Dr. Gergely Csaba. After a concise yet thorough theoretical summary, participants tested their knowledge by solving real clinical cases. The small-group format and the high number of demonstrators ensured immediate feedback, quick assistance, and a friendly atmosphere.

At the end of the day, participants had the opportunity to share their experiences informally and get to know their peers better.

According to feedback, the workshop was not only professionally valuable but also student-friendly and enjoyable, and it helped students effectively combine theory with practice. Initiatives like this play an important role in helping students confidently connect knowledge acquired during preclinical years with clinical practice, while also increasing motivation for exam preparation.

The instructors and demonstrators created a supportive and approachable environment that encouraged active participation. The demonstrators—Dóra Nemeskéri (6th year), Georgia Valentine (5th year), Martin Giber (5th year), Anna Müller (6th year), and Nikolett Légrádi (4th year)—also prepared a comprehensive set of notes for their fellow students.
