ROMCON 2026 Held with New Elements and an Expanded Program
April 10, 2026
In 2026, the Romhányi György College for Advanced Studies organized the ROMCON International Medical Student Conference for the fourth time. The event is the largest medical- and health sciences–focused international scientific conference of the University of Pécs and its Medical School, primarily organized by medical students, providing a forum for young researchers over three days.
The conference was opened by Professor Dóra Reglődi, Vice Dean for Science at the Medical School of Pécs, who emphasized the importance of student research activities and international collaborations.
A total of 152 scientific presentations were delivered in Hungarian and English during ROMCON 2026. Participants presented their research results in 25 sections, evaluated by professional juries. The international character of the conference continued to strengthen, with speakers arriving from Slovenia, Georgia, the Czech Republic, Germany, and the Netherlands.
This year, the program was expanded with several new elements. As part of the Medical School’s Well-being Program, an exhibition was opened to highlight students’ mental and physical well-being. Meanwhile, the Medical Education Forum focused on current issues in medical training. The forum was opened by Professor András Komócsi, Vice Rector of the University of Pécs, followed by a lecture from Harm Peters, President of the Association of Medical Schools in Europe (AMSE) and professor at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin. A key role in organizing the forum was played by Full Professor Andrea Tamás of the Department of Anatomy at the Medical School of Pécs and a board member of AMSE.
The main organizers of the conference were Dr. Kristóf Filipánits, Dr. Míra Zsófia Peresztegi, Marcell Schmidt, and Dr. Máté Szemes, with student members of the Romhányi György College for Advanced Studies contributing to the organization. The event was supported by the Dean’s leadership of the Medical School and the University of Pécs Student Service Center.
Among the main sponsors of ROMCON 2026 were Richter Gedeon Plc. and L’Oréal. Thanks to L’Oréal’s support, all-day melanoma screening was available during the conference, while Richter contributed to a roundtable discussion on collaborations between the University of Pécs and industry partners, as well as multicenter, innovative pharmaceutical research led by the university.
The conference concluded with a gala dinner, where Dr. Ádám Schlégl gave a presentation about his preparation for the HUNOR Hungarian Astronaut Program and shared his experiences.
