University of Pécs Legal Clinic Assists International Students in More Than 100 Cases

March 27, 2026

Over the past year, the Campus Legal Aid Clinic (CLAC), a professionally supervised legal aid service run by law students at the University of Pécs, provided assistance in more than 100 cases. Among other matters, the Clinic handled questions related to setting up sole proprietorships, immigration issues — including the legal stay in Hungary of family members of third-country national students — rental disputes, and cases related to criminal proceedings.

Established in 2015, CLAC was founded primarily to provide legal assistance to international students. Its mission is to help students arriving in Pécs from all over the world resolve their legal issues effectively, while also contributing to the professional development of the participating law students. The program is unique in Hungary because it specifically focuses on legal issues affecting international students and offers counselling in English and German.

According to its recently published summary report, the Clinic’s clients came from more than 40 countries, including India, Tajikistan, Norway, Kenya, Germany, and Turkey. During the 2025/2026 reporting period, student advisors handled more than 100 cases. These primarily involved immigration law, civil law, criminal law, and criminal procedure. The matters addressed included the possibility for third-country nationals to establish sole proprietorships, residence law issues concerning the children of university students, rental disputes such as inadequate housing conditions and the return of security deposits, reporting thefts to the authorities, understanding the stages of criminal proceedings, and enforcing victims’ claims.

More than 750 Cases Since Its Establishment

The report also highlights that since its establishment, the Legal Clinic has handled more than 750 cases. CLAC’s educational cooperation partners include KPMG Legal, the Pécs Regional Court, the Kaposvár Regional Court, and the Baranya County Police Headquarters.

Based on student feedback, the service provides substantial support in resolving everyday legal issues. Respondents especially highlighted the advisors’ preparedness, helpfulness, and professional attitude.
