June 19, 2025

After receiving his degree in Pécs and continuing his training as a family doctor in Saxony, the first doctor has recently begun to work as a family doctor. He graduated from a joint training programme launched by the Ministry of Health in Saxony in cooperation with the University of Pécs Medical School and the Saxon Association of General Practitioners (KVS).

32-year-old Maximilian Braun started practicing in Mosel, located in Zwickau - reported Mfor.hu based on the news of the German n-tv highlighting the fact that the aim of the cooperation, started in 2013, is to moderate the shortage of doctors in Saxony.

40 German students are allowed to study in the programme each year, if they agree to work as general practitioners in the underserved areas of Saxony for at least five years. One semester costs 7800 euros (approximately 3,1 million forints), the tuition fee is financed by Saxony, the health insurance services and the doctors’ professional association in Saxony.

The report also revealed that 213 people are currently studying in the programme according to the doctors’ professional association in Saxony, 164 of whom are still continuing their university studies. 49 doctors graduated from Pécs have started their general practitioner training in Saxony since 2019. Although some of them dropped out, but recently graduated doctors will be able to start practicing soon.

15 years of successful cooperation between Saxony and the Medical School
