2nd Pathophysiador - Competition-style Workshop in Pathophysiology held on March 29th 2025

April 9, 2025

On March 29th, 2025, we organized the second edition of our competition-style workshop in Pathophysiology—Pathophysiador. This event followed the success of the inaugural workshop held during the 2024/2025/1 semester. The name comes from the popular Hungarian game, Triviador. The game consisted of answering single-choice Pathophysiology related questions to attack and defend for territories on a map. 3 teams of 1-2 people competed in one battle, and there were altogether 25 battles. A Swiss-style tournament format was incorporated to ensure that participants of all levels of knowledge could enjoy the workshop. Winners were determined based on this format.

The workshop aimed not only to challenge students to uncover deeper knowledge in pathophysiology but also to encourage them to approach learning with fresh perspectives, curiosity, and innovative thinking. Through our workshop, students developed skills in quick thinking, collaborative discussion on the core of each question, learning new pathophysiological concepts, and formulating effective strategies.

Use of Artificial Intelligence in the Workshop

Artificial intelligence is playing an increasingly significant role in medical education, and this competition proved that, when used appropriately, AI can be a powerful tool for deepening knowledge. To facilitate the Pathophysiador competition, we created a database containing more than 350 single-choice questions, which we plan to expand further in the future. The questions were generated with the help of AI and then carefully reviewed and modified by our team as needed to ensure their accuracy and relevance. This not only eased the workload of educators but also provided students with a novel learning experience, reflecting the rapidly digitizing world of medical education. Technology does not replace human expertise – it supports it, just as a great mentor helps to illuminate complex concepts.

Results of the Workshop

This semester’s competition brought together 15 teams, composed primarily of third-year medical students currently studying pathophysiology, along with participants from other years. The atmosphere was exciting and inspiring, blending curiosity with the thrill of competition. The workshop began with opening remarks from Dr. András Garami, followed by an explanation of the rules, a practice round, and four competition rounds. Each round consisted of five battles, each involving three teams. Contestants adopted different strategies – some worked in teams, while others relied on their individual skills – and both approaches proved to be successful.

Top-performing participants were:

First place: Eklics Teodóra

Second place: Hadi Zameri & Maria Berge

Third place:

  • Emma Sjåstad Størksen & Marte Berntsen
  • Farhan Nazari & Yinjie Li
  • Shubail Abdullah

They stood out not only for their exceptional knowledge and speed but also for their ability to adapt to the competitive environment and bring out their best under pressure. Congratulations!

The winners and outstanding participants received vouchers provided with the support of the Circle of Demonstrators (DDK) and the Student Council (HÖK) of the Medical School, but the greatest reward was not a certificate or a prize – it was the experience itself. The realization that learning can be engaging, interactive, and enjoyable.

We would like to thank Dr. András Garami, Dr. Aba Lőrincz, and Benedek Kasza for their continuous support and invaluable contributions throughout the planning and execution of the workshop. Their guidance and encouragement played a key role in making the workshop a success. We also would like to thank our demonstrators: Fanni Dóra Kiss, Mohadeseh Zahediyan, Kazushi Ogasawara, Abdulrahman Shubail, Giffry Zafar Hussain Mohammad Ihsan, Barnabás Rozmán and Noé Veress.

The success of the Pathophysiador Competition proves that the future of education lies not in passive knowledge absorption, but in active exploration and creative approaches.

If you missed out this semester, don’t let the next one pass you by! The Pathophysiador Competition is not just a contest – it’s a thrilling learning experience. A unique opportunity to deepen your knowledge and gain new perspectives. Next workshop promises even greater challenges and even more exciting competitions.

Join us next semester for an exciting challenge!
