"Focus on interactivity" - demonstrator workshop was organised for the 6th time

March 27, 2025

For the sixth time, a demonstrator workshop was organised on 28 February 2025 by the Department of Languages for Biomedical Purposes and Communication and the Demonstrator Student Circle at the Medical School. At the informal meeting, the focus was on interactivity: the presenters did not only give presentations but also required the active participation of the participants. Senior students’ board games and presentations on communication and teaching methodology in English contributed significantly to a relaxed approach to being a demonstrator/teaching assistant and facilitating language learning.

The opening speech was given by Dr. László Czopf, Vice Dean for Education of the faculty, Dr. Andrea Tamás, President of the DDK and Dr. Vilmos Warta, Director of the Department of Languages for Biomedical Purposes and Communication, and a welcome speech by the main organiser of the workshop, Dr. Katalin Eklicsné Lepenye. The German-language session was organised by Dr. Rita Kránicz and the event moderated by Rana Rostami Jalilian, a fifth-year medical student.

This year, the workshop was again in English for the Hungarian, English, and German students. In addition to the language classes, clinical demonstrator work played an important role, which Dr. László Czopf and clinical demonstrator students discussed. After the plenary lectures, the participants had the opportunity to participate in workshops on English-Hungarian language and communication, terminology, and German-Hungarian.

The main topics of this year's workshop were non-verbal communication, artificial intelligence, understanding the Hungarian language, and improving presentation skills. It was also an excellent opportunity to build new relationships between senior and new demonstrators.

"The workshop achieved its purpose because we learned how to be more successful and effective demonstrators. The meeting had a friendly atmosphere, and we gained a lot of useful information, and experiences" - summarised Réka Kovács, demonstrator.
