Exploration of Hydrogels as Controlled Release Systems for the Treatment of Arterial Calcifications

March 5, 2025

Master's Internship Opportunity: Exploring Hydrogels for Treating Arterial Calcifications

A new Master's internship project, starting in March 2025, invites candidates to explore hydrogels as controlled release systems for treating arterial calcifications (AC). This research is a collaborative effort led by Dr. Jean-Michel Davaine (AP-HP), Prof. Farid Bakir (Arts et Métiers, LIFSE), and Dr. Samar Issa (EBInnov).

Arterial calcification, a common condition in atherosclerosis, renal insufficiency, and diabetes, results from calcium and phosphorus buildup in the arteries. The study will investigate prolonged release techniques, focusing on hydrogels that could encapsulate active ingredients for use in stents and drug-eluting balloons.

Key objectives include evaluating the effectiveness of these hydrogels in releasing therapeutic agents over extended periods and assessing their impact on calcified surfaces. The project aims to advance therapeutic options for AC, with potential implications for improving vascular health.

Interested students with a background in medicine, pharmacy, or related fields are encouraged to apply.
