January 28, 2025

Improving 121 places compared to its 2024 position, the University of Pécs has been ranked 447th in the medical and health category of the latest Times Higher Education (THE) international ranking of higher education, the details of which were published recently.

According to the ranking’s website, the Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject has evaluated universities in 11 fields of study by using and refining the 2025 World University Rankings methodology. They used 18 performance indicators grouped under five main pillars - teaching, international and industrial relations, the reputation of the research carried out at the institution and the revenue generated by it, and research excellence including citations - to provide a detailed, comprehensive picture of the performance of the world’s higher education institutions.

One of the fields of study is the medical and health segment, where the University of Pécs has managed to improve its position. While in the 2023 and 2024 rankings, the institution was ranked 501-600th, in the 2025 ranking, it moved up to 401-500th, namely the 447th place, following the analysis of the above indicators. Indicators measuring the research environment and the quality of research have improved, as have the university’s industrial relations and international segment.

According to the information published on the THE’s website, the reputation of research carried out at the institutions in this field of study was weighted most significantly (19.3%), but citation impact (17.5%) and the reputation of education (17.3%) were also given special attention, accounting for 54.1% of the one and a half dozen performance indicators.
