Demonstrator Work Gaining Popularity – Insights from the DDK Autumn General Assembly
October 24, 2024
The autumn general assembly of the Circle of Demonstrators was held on October 7 in the new educational building of our faculty. More than a hundred participants—mentors, students, and faculty members—attended the event.
Following Dr. Miklós Nyitrai dean's welcome speech, Dr. Andrea Tamás, the president of the organization, shared that since the Circle of Demonstrators was founded in 2015, a total of 1,114 students have joined, with 94 new students starting their demonstrator activities in this semester alone. In recent years, more than three hundred students have been engaged in demonstrator work every semester across various institutes and clinics.
The scoring system for the Demonstrators' Scholarship, which will be announced in the spring semester, was also presented. Dr. Kristóf Filipánits, a board member, introduced the functionality of the web application ddk.pte.hu, developed in collaboration with the IT and Innovation Directorate of the University of Pécs (PTE), which has become the primary administrative platform for demonstrator work starting from this academic year.
Dr. László Czopf, the vice dean for education, presented the benefits of being a demonstrator in clinical subjects and other auxiliary teaching opportunities that can be pursued alongside clinical education.
Dr. Brandon Beck, a resident physician and the winner of the 2024 Best Demonstrator award, delivered a motivational speech about the path leading to this prestigious title.
To close the event, Dr. Anikó Takátsy, associate professor, gave a presentation about her experiences at the 2024 AMEE healthcare education conference held in Basel and spoke about the role of demonstrator students in the teaching of Biochemistry. We also heard a brief summary of the first Biochemistry Workshop organized by demonstrators. The assembly concluded with a Q&A session.
