June 28, 2024
The reconstruction of the southern park of the Medical School in Pécs has begun. The contractor took over the area on 16 May, and the actual work started on 20 June, with the closing of the area and the demolition of the pavement. The work will be carried out in three phases, with the park expected to be completed in early 2025.
As we reported in our news, the project is called “UPMS Southern Park Reconstruction Phase I-II.” and will be implemented with a net cost of HUF 726 million in three phases. The area facing Szigeti Street will be closed, and the fence bordering the road will be removed.
According to Ders Csaba, the university’s head of planning, urban planner, an elegant pedestrian walkway will be built in the area, and the path will lead through a park with groves to the building of the faculty. The car park in the middle of the southern park will be relocated to a less congested area of the campus, which is more marginal in terms of faculty life.
With an emphasis on community functions, public furniture will be installed for individual and group relaxation, studying, and eating, and green coatings will be used to make the space even more attractive.
The work, expected to take nine months, will include unique public artworks and furniture of symbolic value in the new park, which will form a unified structure with the space in front of the new Dental Education Centre.
The reconstruction is expected to be completed in early 2025.
