Around the World – Kokeshis: Japanese wooden dolls in Hungary

Considering the accelerated pace of the past decades, much more is happening at the same time, until once the Earth turns around. However, there are few things in our world that try to stop the passage of time and to record traditions for posterity that are based on our human, natural and religious values. The authentic world of kokeshi, Japanese wooden dolls traditionally made since the 18th century, is meant to preserve and present just that.
When selecting the material for this exhibition, it was important to present the history of traditional Japanese kokeshi dolls and the contemporary artistic kokeshi dolls of Réka Tóth-Vásárhelyi in parallel, bridging time and geographical distances.
